Approved / Recommended Plants for Mayfield Park Volunteer Gardens
Not sure what to plant? The Mayfield Garden Committee would like to see every garden contain some of the following flowering plants as they bloom beautifully at Mayfield Park. We encourage these to be planted in clusters if they’re tall or as borders if they are low lying for the most impressive color impact. Plants in the approved plant list can be used to fill in bare spots.
- Spring bulbs– chinese ground orchid, summer snowflake, daffodil and tulip
- Spring perennials – columbine and larkspur (seeds sown late in fall)
- Summer bulbs– lily and iris
- Summer perennials– garden phlox
- Fall bulbs– oxblood lily, spider lily (lycoris)
- Winter annuals– snapdragon and stock
Approved Plant List Notes:
- Plants on this list marked with an * are original to the site – please do not remove them from gardens.
- Plants on this list marked with a *P have been eaten by peacocks in the past.
- Plants found in the volunteers gardens that not on this list may be removed by the Mayfield Garden Committee.
